(Helena)-- Governor Marc Racicot announced today that he has chosen Republican candidate James Whitaker to represent House District 41 in the next biennium.
James Whitaker and Brennan Ryan (D) tied, each receiving 717 votes, in the legislative race to represent House District 41 in Cascade County. The governor is obligated under Montana law to appoint a candidate when the winner cannot be determined in a General Election.
Governor Racicot interviewed each candidate on Tuesday and says he was impressed by both of them. "Cascade County is fortunate to have two capable and committed people who are willing to serve their community in theMontana House of Representatives. Unfortunately, a tie leaves with me the duty of selecting only one of them to serve, "Governor Racicot said.
"After careful consideration, I have chosen James Whitaker to represent House District 41 in the coming biennium. He will make a positive contribution to a Republican majority and a Republican administration. I am confident that both men will continue to make a positive impact on Montana for the sake of a better future for all of us."
