GOVERNOR MARC RACICOT REAPPOINTS MIKE MCCARTER AS WORK COMP JUDGE

Governor MARC RACICOT today reappointed Mike McCarter to another six-year term as Workers Compensation Judge in Helena. Judge McCarter’s current term expires on September 6, 1999.

The Governor made the reappointment after receiving a recommendation from the Judicial Nomination Commission. Governor RACICOT said, "Mike has done an outstanding job and has presided over some very difficult cases. His experience in arbitration and mediation over the past six years is a definite asset that he will carry over into his next term as Work Comp Judge."

The Workers Compensation Court resolves disputes between injured workers and companies that insure employers against on-the-job accidents.

Judge McCarter was born March 28, 1948, in St. Louis, Mo. and raised in Colorado. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in political science in 1970. He received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1973.

Prior to his original appointment as judge of the state Workers Compensation Court, Mike McCarter was in private practice with the Helena law firm of Hughes, Kellner, Sullivan and Alke beginning in April 1984. He moved to Montana in 1977, and was an assistant attorney general under Montana Attorney General Mike Greely from 1977 to 1982. He headed the state’s Medicaid Fraud Bureau from October 1982 to March 1984.

Judge McCarter is married to Dorothy McCarter, who is a Helena district judge. They have two grown sons.
