State Tribal Economic Development Commission Awards
Montana Reservation Assessment Contract

RJS & Associates, a private consulting firm located on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation was recently awarded a contract from the Montana State Tribal Economic Development Commission to conduct an assessment of the economic conditions, and economic development activities of the seven Indian Reservations and the Little Shell Tribe of Montana.

Founded in 1975, RJS employs 100% American Indian staff and consultants with highly diverse and multi-skilled backgrounds. Dr. Robert J. Swan serves as the Chief Executive Officer and President of RJS, while his son James Swan, serves as the Vice President of the Corporation.

RJS is a nationally recognized consulting firm that offers training and technical assistance to educational institutions, tribal organizations, and various other groups in the fields of grantsmanship, proposal development, program and school evaluations, research and needs assessments, as well as other fields. RJS was recognized in 1999 as the Montana Indian Owned Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Montana Division.

Dr. Swan said, "This assessment will provide the Governor, State Legislature, Tribal Chairpersons, and ultimately the entire State of Montana with a clear understanding of the current economic conditions facing American Indians in our state."

Coordinator Donald "Louie" Clayborn said, "I am pleased with the contract award and look forward to working with Dr. Swan and his staff beginning November 1. We expect to see their preliminary report within four months."

The contract will be administered through the Governor's Office of Indian Affairs currently under the direction of Coordinator, Donald "Louie" Clayborn and the State Tribal Economic Development Commission.

There will be a State Tribal Economic Development Commission meeting in Great Falls, October 25, 2000 at the Heritage Inn starting at 10:00 AM.
