HELENA-- Gov. MARC RACICOT today named Stewart Evans Stadler as District Judge in Montana's Eleventh Judicial District.
Governor Racicot in naming the Montana native said, "The decision was a difficult one because all of the candidates are reputable attorneys and well-qualified for the position. In the judicial selection procedure, we closely examine writing samples, references and conduct objective interviews."
Stewart Stadler graduated from Butte High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1966, earning a degree in business administration/finance. In 1973, he graduated from the University of Montana Law School, in Missoula.
The 55 year-old Mr. Stadler earned a Bronze Star in 1970 while serving in the U. S. Army in Vietnam. He is a former board member of the Flathead Red Cross.
Mr. Stadler has served as Justice of the Peace for Flathead County since 1985. Prior to becoming justice of the peace, Mr. Stadler was a private business owner and practiced general law. Stadler was associated with the law firm of Warden, Walterskirchen and Christensen in Kalispell from 1973-1975.
Stadler will assume his new position on January 1, 2000. The new judicial position was authorized by the 1999 Legislature in Senate Bill 273.
The two other candidates presented by the Judicial Nominating Commission to the Governor for consideration were Vanessa Ceravolo and David Ortley.
