(HELENA)--- Governor Marc Racicot declared a state of emergency this morning for the entire state effective July 27, 2000. Extremely dry conditions, high winds, and wildland fires have created an imminent threat of a disaster which timely actions can avert or minimize.
Section 10-3-311 and 10-3-312 of the MCA authorizes the Governor to mobilize state resources and the Montana National Guard to protect life, health, and property and allows for the expenditure of funds from the general fund to meet contingencies and needs arising from the emergency.
As of July 28, 2000, there are 130 Army and Air National Guard soldiers deployed on the Canyon Ferry Fire Complex. Another 250 National Guard soldiers will be mobilized on Sunday, July 30.
Current status of the fires in the State of Montana can be found utilizing the Internet at: www.fs.fed.us/r1/fire/nrcc.
