HELENA: The Governor's Office of Community Service (OCS) is seeking nominations for the inaugural Governor's Award for Civic Engagement. The award will recognize outstanding individuals of all ages and backgrounds who, through their dedication and commitment to community service and volunteerism, have greatly enhanced civic life in Montana and embodied the true spirit of civic engagement. OCS established the award to honor individuals for their efforts to engage their communities and achieve results that truly affect state or local ways of life.
Individuals of all ages and backgrounds are eligible for nomination. Nominees must be residents of the State of Montana and may not be salaried for the services performed. Awards will be given to one deserving individual, if merited, in each of the following age groups: (1) youth, 18 years of age and under, (2) young adult, 19 - 22 years of age, (3) adult, 23 - 64 years of age, and (4) seniors, 65+ years of age.
In announcing the award, Governor Racicot remarked, "To Montanans, neighbor helping neighbor is not just a sentimental notion. This award will honor and celebrate those very special Montanans who have done just that - engaged their neighbors and community members in building a better tomorrow."
Award winners will be honored at the Governor's Civic Engagement Awards Banquet to be held the evening of October 30th at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls. The deadline for receipt of nominations is October 13th.
